Had a Zoom call tonight with a bunch of talented authors. Just talking with other authors gets my creative juices flowing. As writers, we are engaged in a largely solitary pursuit, but we are not alone.
Social media feeds you nothing but a steady stream of highlights, but every author-no matter how successful-has moments of doubt. We all have days when we hate our WIPs. Some of us sass the screen when doing edits. Most of us feel tired or demoralized at least once a week.
I repeat: You are not alone.
I just saw a lovely Facebook post written by a person I know to be a writer of the LitFic variety.
When I got to the end of the post I saw that they signed it with a copyright symbol and their full name.
I decided then and there I will be taking myself far more seriously from here on out.

I have a real loathe/hate relationship with Twitter. You would think that would make it easy for me to quit it, would you? Not so much.
My urges to check my feed are the product of FOMO. But let’s face it, I’m really not missing much other than anger-inducing moments on a forum filled with discontent. This morning I clicked the link and the first post that popped up made me angry.
So, I’ve given myself a deadline. I have until the end of July to wean myself and find other ways to connect with the tweeple I want to keep in my life.
I’m trying to cut back on social media. I like keeping up with friends and family, but sometimes it’s overwhelming to me. But it’s such a hard habit to break. So, as I’m stepping away, I plan to use my blog as a crutch.
Whenever I have a random thought, silly meme, or a picture I HAVE to share with the world, I will try to do it here. Who knows? Maybe you’ll find whatever it is interesting and we can chat a bit about it.
Did you see any headlines about the vicious shark attack in Arkansas?
How are you? Are you ready for summer? It’s been gray and rainy here, so I am ready for some sunshine.
It’s been a busy start to the year. I’ve written two books for my 2023 Harlequin Intrigue series – Arkansas Special Agents – and I’m working on book #3 now. It’s been such a whirlwind, I completely forgot to post about my current release, FOOTHILLS FIELD SEARCH.
Sheesh.
Anyhow, in case you haven’t seen me posting elsewhere, Brady and Cassie (and Winne’s!) story is available now! Here’s the scoop!
An officer and his K-9
Stand between a mother and her worst nightmare…
When two kids are kidnapped from plain sight, Officer Brady Nichols and his intrepid canine, Winnie, spring into action. Single mother Cassie Whitaker thought she’d left big-city peril behind—until it followed her to Jasper. Brady and his K-9 are on the case, but can they protect Cassie from a stalker who won’t take no for an answer?
I’ve seen it at my local Barnes & Noble as well as Walmart. Let me know if you spot it in the wild. If you’re looking for links on where to buy, go here: books2read.com/K9FFS
I hope all is well with you. Enjoy the sunshine!!
I think we can all agree 2021 was a tough one. I don’t know anyone who was sad to put it in the rearview mirror. But as with all things, there was a lot of good to go with the bad. So while I choose to be a goldfish (watch Ted Lasso if you don’t get the reference) in most things…
I did keep track of the little things that created pockets of happiness in my days so I’d remember the good. Here are my 2021 #happythings. Most of them involve food, apps, or puppy dogs. Hey, you take your happy where you can get it, right?
What were some of the highlights for you?

Hi friends. Can you believe it’s December already? Me either.
Truthfully, I won’t be sad to leave 2021 behind. This has been a hard year. Not that it’s been all bad – just a bit of a slog. Tons of good things happened, and I have been keeping up with my monthly #happythings lists. I’ll post the year-end wrapup here at the end of the month.
But a New Year is coming. I have high hopes for 2022, how about you? Is there anything you’re looking forward to?
If you’re looking for some holiday romance – I have some for you. I have a new one-hour short story called LOVE ON DELIVERY available in both ebook and audio formats, LONG DISTANCE LOVE is on sale, and our favorite New Year’s Eve gone wrong/right story, THE LAST FIRST DATE is always a fun way to spend a night in.
So, take some time to curl up in your cozies, maybe add a splash of “special coffee creamer” to your mug, and be sure to breathe deeply.
Peace, friends.
I feel like Ferris Bueller these days.
We’ve had a lot of upheaval lately, more than a little stress, and well, you could say things have gone to the dogs. Literally.
We took in a stray about 10 days ago and have been working to get him safely placed. And I mean working. There has been flyers, posts, calls, texts, begging, pleading, tears, and recriminations…
And we have Sally and our temporary lodger, Timber in the house. I don’t think we’ve had a good night’s sleep in weeks, and I’m feeling pretty worn.
So, whether I meant to or not, I took the weekend off from doing any writing. The brainpower is not there. I will try to get back in the groove this week, but I make no guarantees.
So, yeah, don’t forget that Harry is out there in the world waiting for you to pick him up.
I hope you are well. Is it November yet?
First…. I typed The End on my June 2022 Harlequin Intrigue release FOOTHILLS FIELD SEARCH! I’m super-excited about this one because it’s a part (book #3) of a multi-author series called K-9s On Patrol.
I got to write about a yellow Labrador retriever named Winnie, who is a trained search & rescue dog.
As you can see, my black lab, Sally, is trained mainly in kitchen search and scarf, but she’s pleased that I was able to help rep the breed.
Then, we had to offload this one this weekend. I mean, the maintenance and upkeep alone…
And finally… Harry will be released into the wild tomorrow!
TRIAL IN THE BACKWOODS – the third installment in my Raising the Bar Brief series from Harlequin Intrigue hits the shelves 9/28/21! Look for Harry and Alicia at a bookstore, Walmart, Meijer, or other mass merchandiser near you!
Whew! I don’t know about you, but I need a nap. Is it October yet?
