I’m home! I’m home, I’m home, I’m home! Well, I’m home for another 10 days. 🙂 The good news is that my next trip will be pleasure and not business. The bad news? Well, I seem to have misplaced my motivation. I have a novel to write and I’m having a hard time getting into it.
If you’re my editor, please stop reading here.
I’ll make the deadline.
I swear.
You see, this story is going to be very different from anything I’ve written before. This story will deal with a very difficult subject matter – marital infidelity.
I will state here and now that I have no personal experience in this area. At least, not that I know of. If any of you know something I don’t know, please keep it to yourself. I’m a huge fan of oblivion. Unfortunately, my character, Shel, doesn’t have that luxury. The poor woman is going to have to deal with her husband’s indiscretion head-on.
As an author, this is a very exciting and intimidating prospect. You see, the main character is ‘speaking’ to me in 1st person. I’ve never written in 1st, only 3rd. It’s going to be a big jump to master a new style. Dealing with touchy subject matter is another worry, but one I’m queasy (not quasi)-excited to tackle. So yeah…while I’m looking forward to facing this life challenge with my character, I’m praying it’s the only time I ever have to deal with it.
I know that, like Shel, I’m just going to have to jump and start wading through it. Here’s hoping we both come out stronger on the other side.
What do you have going on in your world?
I am so excited for this story. It’s always good to challenge yourself as a writer. I have complete confidence that you’ll pull this off in a spectacular way, and I’ll be right there, cheering you on! 🙂
My world is a busy, busy place right now. I’m gonna be teaching two high school phys-ed classes for four weeks, helping to supervise a special needs class, and volunteering with the athletic club as their faculty member. I love being part of the faculty, even if it’s only for a short term. Makes me feel all important. Can’t wait for our girls’ weekend!!
I will be excited to read Shel’s story. I know the angst will probably be hard for me to read but one that you will do masterfully. I know that you are up to the challenge of writing the story in 1st person.
I think my world will be very status quo. Work punctuated with occasional trips for fun. At this juncture I have somewhere to go in Feb (Yay!), May (camping), June (Wedding) and perhaps Aug. (Maybe Vegas for my birthday).
Good luck to you. You always take on a challenge head on and you will master this one too.
I’m excited for your story. There was something in Contentment that totally spoke to me. I really related to the monotony that sets in. Unfortunately, in my case, this did lead to infidelity (not on my part) and we never got back what we had.
I definitely can’t wait to read Shel’s story.
I’m available for research if you need it 😉
PS, I’m so excited for your next vacation since it means I get to see you!
Just found out over the weekend that a husband in an idyllic family I know of has been cheating on his wife repeatedly during the last five years. Made me wonder: would it be worse if he casually cheated on you with anything that moved for five years, or would it be more emotionally damaging if he had one serious mistress for five years’ time? Hmmm. In any case, I sweetly reminded my hubby again that if he ever did anything like that there wouldn’t be enough left of him to take to divorce court.
Can’t wait to read about Shel. I know it will be a terrific story. And I also know you’ll have it written in what seems like a blink of an eye to me because you have mad Ninja writing skills!
All of you will need to have twice the good times in Atlanta because I’m going to have to experience it vicariously through you! Hug everybody for me, OK?
